Your day is read to you, not studied. We keep only what runs the app. We show no ads, we track you nowhere, and we sell nothing about you.
I.What we keep with your account
- Your sign-in. Your email address, or the identifier Sign in with Apple or Google gives us, your name if Apple or Google shares it, and a random user ID. Handled by Firebase Authentication (Google). With Sign in with Apple you can hide your real email.
- Your mornings. Your streak: how many mornings in a row you have got up with DayBrief, and the day it last counted. Stored with your account in Google Cloud Firestore, so it follows you to a new phone.
- A daily count. How many briefs were voiced for your account today, to keep the service fair. It holds no content.
- Your subscription. Whether DayBrief Pro is active, and its purchase history, through Apple and RevenueCat, tied to your user ID. Apple takes the payment; we never see your card.
- A notification token. If you allow notifications, a device token from Firebase Cloud Messaging. You can turn notifications off in Settings, Notifications.
II.What leaves your phone to be spoken
To be read in the voice you chose, the words of your brief are sent to DayBrief's voice service when you set an alarm and when you open the app. Those words are the date, the weather line, the titles and times of today's calendar events, and the intention you typed. The voice service runs on Google Cloud and passes the words to OpenAI, which turns them into speech and returns the audio. The audio is kept on your phone. We do not store the words of your brief, and our logs record only your user ID, the voice, the length of the text and timing. OpenAI handles the words under its API terms, which say it does not train its models on them; it may keep them for a limited time to prevent abuse. If you'd rather nothing from your calendar leaves your phone, don't allow calendar access; the brief then speaks without your events.
III.Weather, without your location
DayBrief never asks for your location. You type a city once; its name is sent to Open-Meteo to find its coordinates, which are kept on your phone. Each forecast request sends those coordinates to Open-Meteo, with nothing that identifies you.
IV.Only if you allow it
- Usage and crash reports. If you accept on the privacy prompt, or turn it on later in Settings, Legal & Privacy: Firebase Analytics counts which screens and steps are used, and Firebase Crashlytics sends a report when the app crashes. They are not linked to your name or email, and are used only to improve the app. They are off until you allow them, and you can turn them off at any time.
V.What stays on your phone
- Your alarms and your voice. Your alarm times and the character you chose are kept on your phone.
- Your calendar. DayBrief reads today's events on your phone. Only the titles and times of the day's events go into the brief, as described above. We never copy your calendar to our servers.
- Your intention and your city. Kept on your phone; the intention travels only as part of the brief to be spoken.
- Your answers. What you tell us when you start stays on your phone.
VI.What we don't do
- No advertising, and no sale or rental of personal data.
- No tracking across other companies' apps or websites.
- No use of your location, contacts, photos, camera or microphone.
- No reading of your calendar beyond today, and no keeping of it.
VII.Who else handles data
Only the services that run the app, acting on our instructions or under their own terms for the service they provide: Google (Firebase Authentication, Cloud Firestore, Cloud Functions, Cloud Messaging, and, if you allow them, Analytics and Crashlytics), OpenAI (turning your brief into speech), Open-Meteo (the forecast for your city), RevenueCat (subscription status) and Apple (payment and the App Store). We disclose data to authorities only where the law requires it.
VIII.Keeping and deleting
We keep your account data while your account exists. Delete it in the app at any time: Settings, Account, Delete account removes your account and your streak. Deleting your account does not cancel a subscription; cancel that in your App Store subscriptions. Apple keeps its own purchase records as the law requires. You can also ask us by email to see or delete your data.
IX.Your rights
Wherever you live, you can ask to see, correct, export or delete the personal data we hold, and object to its use. Residents of the EU, the UK and California have these rights by law. Write to us and we will answer within 30 days.
X.Children
DayBrief is made for adults and families and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13.
XI.Changes and contact
If this policy changes, the date above changes, and we say so in the app when the change matters. Privacy questions or requests: support@newdayapps.com. New Day Industries LLC.
